Halal Baklava

Ingredients

  • 1 package phyllo dough
  • 2 cups finely chopped pistachios or walnuts
  • 1 cup butter, melted (halal-certified)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Layer the Baklava

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Layer phyllo sheets in the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  • After 6 layers, add a layer of nuts. Repeat until all phyllo and nuts are used, finishing with phyllo on top.

Bake the Baklava

  • Cut into diamond or square shapes.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes until golden.

Make the Syrup

  • Combine sugar, water, honey, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Simmer until slightly thickened.
  • Pour syrup over the hot baklava.
