- 4 large onions, thinly sliced
- 3 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 cups halal vegetable or beef broth
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar (optional, for depth)
- 1 baguette, sliced
- 1 cup grated halal-certified Gruyère or mozzarella cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Caramelize the Onions
Heat butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add onions and sugar.
Sauté, stirring occasionally, until onions are golden and caramelized (about 25 minutes).
Assemble and Bake
Preheat your oven to broil. Ladle soup into oven-safe bowls.
